Bellingham High School Students Walk Out to Support Gun Reform, In Pictures

Bellingham High School students walked out of their classes at 11:22 AM and headed to City Hall to protest for gun reform in the United States on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Many of Bellingham’s high schools, middle schools and elementary schools participated to show solidarity with Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida who recently lost 17 students as a result of a school shooting. Students from Bellingham, Sehome, Squalicum and Options High Schools, who organized the walk out, stand in silence for three minutes on the steps to City Hall. In front of hundreds of other students and community supporters, the organizers speak about gun violence and the government’s lack of response. They said they began planning the demonstration two days prior and were shocked at the out pour of support. “We are proud that student representatives from all four high schools are collaborating together and taking action for something they believe in,” the principals of the four high schools said in a collaborative message. “Students feeling passion and advocacy about an issue can be a powerful learning experience.” Hailey Hoffman // AS Review
