Dear Readers,
Welcome and welcome back to Western for fall quarter! Fall quarter always ends up being the busiest time, either as students, as workers or as a newspaper. You may have heard, or are about to, that this is our last print issue! Personally, I’ve always been a big fan of print, whether it’s a newspapers or books. I want to be able to hold something in my hand.
However, there are many positives in going fully digital, it saves money and trees, but the most important thing to consider is accessibility. The AS Review is funded by student dollars, it exists to inform the student and staff population of Western. We wouldn’t be doing our jobs if the news wasn’t accessible for all. While I love putting together the paper on late nights and going home at 2:00 a.m. I believe our time would be better spent cultivating the stories for our readers, making sure we are present in the spaces we are needed and attending to any concerns that you, our readers, may have.
Going forward I want the AS Review to be a news source that you can see yourselves in. A source that you can turn to when you believe there is something that the rest of the student population should know about. We will be there for you, to tell your stories, to represent you and to do it correctly and accurately.
And with that, I would like to welcome you to Western and to our paper. The last print version of the AS Review because from now on we will be on our newly designed website: asreview.org. Our Instagram [@ASReview] will be filled with images taken by our photographer and our Twitter [@TheASReview] will be used for live tweeting events that our writers are attending.
If you have anything you think the students, or reporters, of Western should know about or you want to give us any feedback, feel free to reach out to us: AS.Review.Editor@wwu.edu
