Western Intersectional Lobby Day
At the Associated Students Executive Board meeting on Feb. 7, Kayl Gillihan, Student Advocacy and Identity Resource Center outreach and representation coordinator, presented the legislative agenda for Western Intersectional Lobby Day. SAIRC, the Ethnic Students Center and the Environmental and Sustainability Program collaborate to organize WILD, which takes place over Presidents Day weekend on Feb. 16-17.
Gillihan presented four agendas, one for each office and a general agenda that covers issues like support for undocumented students, funding for ethnic studies, protections for farmworkers and support for survivors of sexual assault. The board approved each agenda with a vote of 7-0-0.
Grace Drechsel, VP for governmental affairs, said that two items from the Western Lobby Day legislative agenda specifically call for environmental protections. Drechsel said if the ESP organizers are interested, they could add the two agenda items to their documents. The board approved the ESP agenda with the understanding that Gillihan and Drechsel would contact the organizers about adding more items to the agenda.
