During the first week of online spring quarter classes, the COVID-19 has continued to impact Western students. The Board of Trustees voted to reduce students fees by 28.6%, and the Associated Students Student Senate and Executive Board each met twice to address student concerns surrounding tuition, fees and AS elections.

According to the Whatcom County Health Department, as of April 10 at 12:40 p.m., there are 250 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus, and 23 deaths connected to the virus in the county. In Washington State, there are 9,608 cases and 446 deaths related to the virus according to the Washington State Health Department.

On April 5, Governor Jay Inslee announced that Washington State would send more than 400 ventilators to New York and other states who have been hit hard by the COVID-19 virus. On April 6, Governor Inslee extended the state-wide school closure until the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Public, private and charter schools across the state will continue online classes through the end of the school year, which ends on June 12.
