Aida Cardona

As a first generation and non-traditional student, womxn of color and local community organizer and activist, I feel strongly that my perspective will offer insights into the worlds and needs of our non-majority student body. We are all well aware of the unprecedented times we live in. Therefore, it is of course now– when and where– we need to unify in our common goal to make our institutions a just, equitable and welcoming space for all students and all people. Through exploring and learning how to connect the threads of personal story to policy and budget reform, I will work to weave toward a student commUnity: One that truly feels heard, seen, respected and represented. I believe in Western’s core value of fostering a Culture of Belonging. My purpose and intention as Student Senate At-Large will be to enrich this culture, and for our student body to feel resonance, meaning and support in their association to WWU.

Ruhia Crumbaugh

As a member of the senate representing the college of business and economics, I will be a voice for those who are underrepresented. I am deeply passionate about leadership and will use my position to develop connections between Western students of all backgrounds, classes, races, and creeds. As a female student of color and member of the BSO, I have personal experience with the barriers that many students continue to face. I will do everything in my power to uplift, empower, and develop opportunity for fellow students .

Connor Johnson

Hi! My name is Connor Johnson, and I’m currently a Junior, majoring in International Business. This year has been challenging for all of us. We have dealt with racism, COVID, uncertainty over jobs and housing, and issues over our mental health. I’m asking for your help as somebody who sees these struggles and simply wants to make a difference. I admit that I do not have a lot of experience in student government, but I do have experience as a small business owner, club leader, and eagle scout. I will stand up for your needs while holding the administration accountable and aware of your problems. I believe that one of my biggest strengths is listening and being open to the views of anybody, even if I initially disagree with them. So, if you have any questions, or want to talk, please email me at johns976@wwu.edu.

Shelby Lubow

Hello, my name is Shelby Lubow and I am a Marketing Major and a third year student here at Western! I would love to be a part of your student senate and proudly use my voice as an advocate for diversity and inclusion here on campus. As a Jewish student here at Western I know how important it is to feel a sense of community and acceptance. I am currently an active member of Chabad, Hillel and STP here on campus. I hope to make everyone feel safe and heard as we continue to grow and learn, so we may set off to make the world a better place.

Holli McKenzie

My name is Holli McKenzie and I am a senior majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. I am running for the AS Student Senate position for the College of Business and Economics. As a senior and the Vice President of the Student Marketing Association, I have developed a strong passion for WWU, the CBE, and the wellbeing of its student body. In this position I will work tirelessly to be a strong voice for underrepresented groups within the CBE. If elected, I will strive to create a lasting change within the CBE, actively constructing an environment that inspires open communication and develops an anti-racist campus. I encourage my fellow students to vote for me if you want a senator who will stand up for what is right, show strong allyship to marginalized groups, and listen not to the loudest voices, but to all voices.

Selam Swier

Hi, my name is Selam Swier (she/her). I’m a junior majoring in Business administration with a concentration in marketing and a minor in African-American studies. I’m running for a senate seat in the College Of Business And Economics, Now more than ever, student leadership is essential. Students deserve the right to make decisions that affect them and have their voices heard. I plan to increase transparency between students and the administration and make sure admins are held accountable for their actions. I find it extremely important and have noticed a lack of space for Black students, especially Black women in the CBE; I’m determined & passionate about creating a space for Black women in the Department. I hope to uphold our student body’s vision and listen to your new ideas on how we can improve the CBE and Western future.
