Kara Henry

Hi everyone! My name is Kara Henry, and I am running to represent you as a Student Senator for Fairhaven College. This is my fourth year at Western studying Latin American Studies, Spanish, and Education & Social Justice. Throughout my time at Fairhaven College, I have been interested in creating more opportunities for student representation at the college and university level. My sophomore year, I worked with other students to start a Community Council at Fairhaven that was dedicated to creating spaces for student input and community building. Students should feel empowered to make lasting changes and to hold faculty and staff accountable to creating an educational experience that upholds the core values of the university and the college. The university cannot exist without us. As your representative at the university level, I will do my best to bring your most pressing concerns and needs to the table.

Marissa McGinnis

My name is Marissa McGinnis. I am a senior at Fairhaven. My concentration focuses on representation within storytelling and how stories shape identity. I am running for a senate position because while in quarantine, I witnessed the rightful outrage from Black students in our community and wanted to do something more than emailing and sharing their demands. A position in the Senate allows me to take a more active role in creating a safe and inclusive environment. As a first-generation student, I often run into barriers in university systems that can be frustrating. I think these experiences allow me to critically question how our system works and who it is and isn’t helping. My goals this year would be generating conversation on how our community can continue anti-racist work within our learning environment. Along with looking into how Fairhaven programs can be more accessible to those with disabilities.

Ella Morrison

I’ve been attending WWU for a year now and have consistently heard my fellow students speak of the inequalities and injustices on campus, particularly inside of Fairhaven College. I consider myself a good team player, a quick learner and an adaptable person, and I believe I could represent and address the needs of Fairhaven students on campus and off. If given the opportunity, I would be honored to contribute my time and efforts in creating a better university for us all.
