2020-21 Shred the Contract Resolution
Laura Wagner and Francis Neff, senators for the Huxley College of the Environment, presented as guests from the Associated Students Student Senate regarding a resolution they created in response to Western’s announcement of the extension of their contract with Aramark.
The resolution outlines a push for Western’s administration to follow through on previous promises and claims about a new dining system, fulfill the 12th demand from Black Student Organizations and replace Aramark with a self-operating dining system.
The Board voted to hold an emergency meeting on Monday, Nov. 30 to vote on the resolution to give members and students the opportunity to read through the resolution, contact stakeholders and come fully prepared to vote.
Committee Council Charge and Charter
VP for Student Services Carson Brock returned with an updated version of his charge and charter from the week before. He specified language within the charge and reverted to including only one student at-large in the membership instead of two in order to help things get moving faster and make quorum easier to achieve.
The charge and charter was approved unanimously.
Board of Trustees Resolution
Senate Pro-tempore Sargun Handa returned again with her finalized resolution regarding student representation and the Board of Trustees.
The resolution was passed unanimously.
Ethnic Student Center Leadership and Advocacy Force Council Charge and Charter
VP for Diversity Ranulfo Molina presented changes to the membership of the ESC Leadership and Advocacy Force Council Charge and Charter. The previous charter included a representative from every ESC club which made quorum impossible to achieve given the number of clubs that went inactive during the pandemic.
Molina adjusted the language to include a representative from every active club instead of all clubs.
The charge and charter passed unanimously.
Board Reports
VP for Governmental Affairs Nicole Ballard shared the current items included on the Western Lobby Day agenda including: college affordability, mental health resources and reform, environmental justice, campus inclusivity, support for undocumented students, food and housing insecurity, expanding Washington’s COVID immigrant relief fund and developing funding for an ethnic studies program.
