The Associated Students Executive Board met on Friday, Dec. 4 for their tenth meeting of the 2020-21 academic year.
Western Lobby Day Agenda
VP for Governmental Affairs Nicole Ballard and Director for Legislative Affairs Jude Ahmed presented the agenda for Western Lobby Day.
The finalized agenda includes the following items: college affordability and student loan forgiveness, environmental justice, mental health and wellness, facilitating comprehensive diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings, supporting survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, Coast Salish longhouse, Western Washington Univeresity, Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University and Evergreen’s $10 million equity funding ask, support and resources for undocumented students and DACA recipients, meeting basic needs and dedicating revenue.
Western Lobby Day will be on Jan. 18 and will take place virtually.
VP for Sustainability
Nora Harren stepped down as VP for sustainability leaving a vacant position on the Board.
The Board discussed the method that would be used to fill the position once winter quarter starts. The by-laws state that if there is a vacancy during fall quarter that a special election will be held to fill it, but if there is a vacancy in winter quarter there is a bit less clarity about the method that should be used to fill the spot. The Board expressed a desire to hold a special election to allow students to make the choice instead of them appointing a new VP.
There was concern expressed regarding the fact that students are currently unaware of the vacancy and that the Sustainability, Equity and Justice Fund Committee is currently without a Board member as Chair.
The Board hopes to inform students by creating an automated email reply for the VP for sustainability email and sending out the information to all students before the special election.
