The Associated Students Executive Board met on Thursday, April 8 for their 21st meeting of the 2020-21 academic year.

Black Student Organization Demand Updates

AS President Abdul Malik Ford said that he recently met with the BSO Coalition Development Specialists for a student-run training to help them start in their new positions.

Senate Pro-tempore Sargun Handa said that Senator for the College of the Environment Francis Neff shared revisions to the religious accommodation policy during the last senate meeting. The revisions included flexibility in the date students are required to inform professors of holidays and increasing the extension hours for assignments during these holidays.

AS President Job Description

Ford shared additional edits to the job description of the AS President.

These new edits include: adopting the employment qualifications from the revised elections code, adding ‘commitment to DEI’ in preferred qualifications, updating and removing responsibilities that have new names or no longer exist, adjusting the wage for the position and adjusting the summer work requirement.

Handa said that the description of the President being the spokesperson or point person for the AS should be edited to say co-spokesperson or include clarifying information to differentiate between the President and Senate Pro-tempore.

Student Trustee Selection Committee Charge and Charter

The primary change in the document was to send the recommendation directly to the state government.

The charge and charter passed with five votes in favor, zero against and two abstaining. Handa abstained because she applied for the position and Ford abstained because he presented the item.

Abolishing Federal Lobbying Trip and Reallocating Funds

Ballard formally motioned to move the funds for what would have been the federal lobbying trip to an account to be used by the BSO Coalition and to abolish the federal lobbying trip.

The motion passed unanimously.
