VOTE HERE

Voting for AS Spring Elections will take place from 12:01 a.m. Thursday, May 20 to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 25.

The students running for the position of AS VP for Governmental Affairs are: Ankur Handa, Elijah Rakha-Sheketoff and Grace Williams.

Ankur Handa

My name is Ankur Handa, a student leader of color and first-generation college student. I am running for VP of Governmental Affairs because I believe it is necessary to create a just, multicultural, and equitable community. If elected, I will passionately advocate for student needs at the local, state, and federal level through a progressive legislative agenda and proactive grassroot activism. Specifically, I will advocate for stronger laws regarding hate crimes, an end to prison labor in higher education, and new sustainable agricultural and energy practices. I will work alongside the Office of Civic Engagement, the Washington Student Association, and other student lobbyists to realize these goals. As a current AS Student Senator, I have advocated for BIPOC and other marginalized students on the Committee of Undergraduate Education and the Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Committee. I ask for your vote to continue serving you as your VP of Governmental Affairs.

Elijah Rakha-Sheketoff

Student involvement in our local and state politics has never been more important. We are facing unprecedented challenges, many of which are unique to our generation. To address these challenges our voice needs to be at the front and center. Thankfully we also have more tools than ever to equitably increase access to the seat of change. I have spent my life advocating for political involvement and would be honored to do that work for Western. That is why I am proud to announce my candidacy for AS VP of Governmental Affairs, and humbly ask for your support.

Grace Williams

My name is Grace Williams, a current Junior at WWU. I am running for VP of Governmental Affairs for the executive board. When I was in high school, I was on the Arlington City Youth Council, a council that worked with the Mayor of Arlington and advocated for the Arlington Youth’s needs. I was President of the council for three years, and because of the time I put in, I understand government and the importance of representation. Because of the work I did there, I could get teens to help with mental health and school. Being a VP of Governmental Affairs would mean continuing this critical work and representing the student body at the State level. I want every Western student to feel heard in a place where they do not usually feel heard. In our State Government. Vote for me, and I will assure you that I will do my best to help you out!
