I am running for the AS VP for sustainability position. Sustainability and zero waste have always been a passion of mine. I never leave the house without my glass straws and reusable bags. I will bring that same passion to this position if elected. We have come to a tipping point with the effects of climate change on our planet. We need big change to save our plant. And Western can be part of that change. If elected, I would work to implement a plastic bag ban and change to paper bags. I would also work to implement a plastic straw and utensils ban. And replace them with compostable options.

As a 2020-2021 College of the Environment Student Senator, I learned just how much the social equity pillar of sustainability can be neglected. Therefore, like in the senate, as VP of Sustainability I would keep BSO demands and BIPOC student voices at the forefront of my work. As VP, I’ll ensure a revised 2017 Sustainability Action Plan’s interest and relevance are maintained, urge institutional strides towards zero waste, expand student interest in SEJF grants and sustainability groups, and be transparent and accessible. The leading voice for change at WWU is the student body. It is vital that AS leaders rally and amplify student voices, especially those of marginalized identities and backgrounds.
