Jacklyn Anderson
My name is Jacklyn Anderson. I use they/them/she/her pronouns. I am running as a CHSS Senator. I have a cumulative gpa of 3.23 and am taking a credit load of 15 credits which qualifies me for this position. I am running for this position because I was part of student government at Skagit Valley Community College holding the position of Club Relations Ambassador which I really enjoyed.
Soriah Clark
Hello! I’m Soriah and I’m running for Western’s Student Senate! I’m a recreation major and am just finishing my sophomore year. I would help represent the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. I’m running for this position because I would love to be involved in keeping Western the great school that it is and making it even better! I hope to foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive community here at Western and want every student to feel that their voice is being heard. I like to work with others to collaborate, listen, and find solutions. I’m comfortable in a leadership role and want to connect with students, hear their questions, concerns, and ideas, and most importantly maximize everyone’s college experience. If elected, I hope to help ease everyone’s transition back to hybrid/ in-person classes, and work to rebuild that sense of community that we’ve missed out on this past year.
Austin Cornelius
I am Austin Cornelius, and I am seeking election to the student senate; I am a full-time student at WWU and am seeking a degree in kinesiology from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Throughout my life I have participated in volunteer work across a variety of fields and have experience leading these teams. During COVID-19 professors across the university have gone above and beyond to provide us as students an equal education to that of in person. However, this is not the case for every class as some students have faced equality problems in the zoom-classroom, with professors opting out of lectures and labs not being suitable for online education. It will be my goal to seek resolutions through the Senate prioritizing equality in education across the student body and aim to get us as students the education that we deserve.
Morgan Harrington
Hello Fellow Students, My name is Morgan Harrington and I am a Junior studying psychology and communication here at Western, who is running for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Student Senate position. First off, I am extremely passionate about helping and advocating for others. My qualifications include over three years of business and team management experience, volunteer involvements such as cuts for kids which provides free haircuts for underprivileged families, running free community yoga classes, as well as experience being a TA for a large lecture class here at Western. If elected I plan to prioritize the mental health and well-being of students by advocating for awareness, diversity, equality, and a sense of community. Being a first-generation student, I also plan to promote accessibility for others who have faced struggles in this area.
Rahma Iqbal
My name is Rahma Iqbal and I am majoring in Public Health through the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. I am running for ASWWU Senate to advocate for POC voices to be listened to and taken seriously within the communities I participate in- this is a goal I am always willing to work towards. I hope to positively represent CHSS and promote the needs and wants of my peers especially during this transitional period.
Gwyn Knight
I, Gwyn Knight, am running for the AS Executive Board at WWU as the College of Humanities and Social Sciences position. I am a transfer student from Eastern Washington University, which I did Running Start at for two years, and am recently declared as a Recreation Management and Leadership Major at Western. I have and will always maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher and attend school full time. I am a kind, determined, caring person and will accomplish diversity, inclusion, and excellent problem solving if elected.
Sofia Larrondo
Hello! My name is Sofia Larrondo, I am an Economics and Political Science major, and I am planning to minor in Communications as well as Law, Diversity, and Justice. I am running for a student senate position within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences because we need more representation of POC and women in the legislative body whose decisions greatly impact these groups. Intersectionality is imperative when drafting and approving resolutions that directly impact the student body, and as someone who cares about a diverse range of issues that affect many marginalized groups, I strongly believe that my passion and drive to make every student at Western feel welcome will make me a great candidate for this position. I will advocate for all students, especially those who do not feel represented, and make WWU a school where all students’ voices are heard.
Leah Swanson
People and passion have brought me to the College of Humanities and Social sciences majoring in Public Health. As a student of Western who values people, I have volunteered as a member of THRIVE which is a on campus group focused on mental health and suicide prevention. Learning to speak about sensitive topics has given me confidence teach others how to communicate during an emotional hardship. I will be running for Student Senate representing the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. I have the will to learn and lead because of the opportunities and hardships I have had during COVID.
