In true Style Spotlight fashion, this quarter’s Style Spotlight came with its many hurdles. Coming to campus on the first day of Style Spotlight, the Wavelength team decided to make the executive decision to cancel our first day. Between pouring rains, showing respect for the WAWU Educational Student Employee strike efforts, and not wanting to take focus away from the Gaza encampment; we packed up and headed home.
Yet, day two showed promise as the spring sun peeked its way through the clouds and campus was full once again. Despite the last-minute cancellation of day one, you all showed up in full force eager to show off your style. The day was filled with laughter, smiles, and some tough conversations that sparked understanding for how the meaning behind Style Spotlight has grown. Style Spotlight is not only a way to show off student styles, but also a way to show off the unique identities, beliefs, and values that each student embodies during their time at Western. We believe that now, more than ever, it is essential to shine light on the diversity and beauty that exists on campus.
As the final Style Spotlight of my career here at Wavelength, I am ever grateful to the team around me that has made this happen. Taking over this project has been an honor, and I am so excited to see how it grows as its passed on to the incoming staff. I will always carry with me the connections and experiences made through Style Spotlight and other projects that I completed. I could not have done this without the ongoing support of the Wavelength staff, my friends, and all of you wonderful students who participated.
