Have you or anyone you know ever had issues with landlords, apartment complexes or home rental companies? If so, you are not alone, and your story could help other renters avoid such problems in the future.
Regular readers of the AS Review may recall our story about Western Lobby Day from a few weeks ago, in which we discussed the items on the Associated Students 2017 legislative agenda. Now the Associated Students is crafting the 2017 Local Agenda, which will be used to lobby on the local level. The Representation and Engagements Programs Office is seeking out input on the issues about which you, the students, are passionate.
On Thursday, February 16 renters advocate and Western alum Zachary DeWolf will be speaking in the VU MPR from 6 to 8 p.m.
DeWolf is an enrolled member of the Chippewa Cree tribe of Rocky Boy, Montana, a queer activist and the president of the Capitol Hill Community Council in Seattle. He will share his personal story about fighting for the rights of renters in Seattle and working to establish his own neighborhood as a “Sanctuary Neighborhood.”
If that’s not enough incentive for you, there will be free food at the event. The organizers request that attendees bring their own dishes and utensils to cut down on waste.
