Associated Students President Lani Defiesta was absent from the AS Executive Board meeting on Friday, Nov. 8.

Restructure Committee

The board approved the charter of the AS restructure committee 6-0-0. The purpose of the  restructure committee is to develop structural changes to the AS and improve efficiency and accessibility of the organization, according to its charter.

Revising Committee Charters

Yesugen Battsengel, VP for diversity, discussed potential structural changes, specifically in regards to membership and voting, to the charters of the Queer Guild Council, Student Disability Advocacy Committee and Undocumented and Mixed Status Student Council.

Emily Gerhardt, VP for student services, presented changes to the Transportation Advisory Committee charter. Changes included changing the title of “ASVP for Student Life” to “ASVP for Student Services,” to reflect the change in the position, and marking that the committee will meet at least once a month, rather than once a week. The charter was approved 6-0-0 and will expire Nov. 6, 2021.

Student Senate Results

The board approved the AS Student Senate elections results 6-0-0. Adah Barenburg, senate pro-tempore, said senator applications are still open in the four colleges that only elected one representative: Huxley College of the Environment, College of Fine and Performing Arts, Woodring College of Education and the Graduate College.

In an email following the board meeting, Barenburg said that she has reached out to college deans and department heads to encourage people to apply for the open positions. During the elections, there was a write-in box on the ballots for each of the colleges where only one person was running, Barenburg said. The person whose name was written in the most will have a preferred application if they choose to apply to be a student senator.
When applications close on Friday, Nov. 15, Barenburg will review applications with Dr. Leti Romo, assistant director student representation and governance, Annie Byers, AS board program coordinator, and an AS board assistant. On Nov. 22, at the first senate meeting of the quarter, Barenburg will present the selected applicants to the senate for approval.
