AS Student Senate Elections: College of Science and Engineering

VOTE HERE

Voting for AS Spring Elections will take place from 12:01 a.m. Thursday, May 20 to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 25.

The students running to represent the College of Science and Engineering are: Justin Brooks, Miriam Gold and Justin McGlone.

Justin Brooks

My name is Justin Brooks and I’m running to be a student senator from the College of Science and Engineering. I’m just a man who wants to be more involved in his community. I am a first generation college student studying electrical and computer engineering. I want the STEM field to be more representative of the true American population. I believe that if a student is passing all their classes, then they should be able to get into their desired major without the fear of not measuring up to their peers who may or may not have experienced more privilege. Thank you for your consideration.

Miriam Gold

My name is Miriam Gold and I am a Cell and Molecular biology major applying to be a Student Senator for the College of Science and Engineering. I am running for this position because it is important to me that WWU students have someone who will advocate unequivocally for their interests, not the interests of those who already have the most influence. I am organized and driven and will use the wide scope that the senate has to advocate for issues plaguing our most underrepresented students. I will advocate as strongly as possible for increases in financial aid and expanding resources because students shouldn’t have to sacrifice their learning to work the long hours required to pay for tuition and housing. I hope you will vote for me for student senator because I want change and will be unapologetic in my support of the priorities of all students.

Justin McGlone

みなさん、おはいよう! Hello fellow students at Western, my name is Justin McGlone. I am a continuing student at Western and will be entering my senior year in the fall quarter. When I was first admitted to Western a friend of mine, Gus, shared with me how the underrepresentation of minority groups was the sole reason for not having applied to Western himself. Meanwhile, over the past several years there has been some effort to enact change, it has been mostly sporadic and targeted to only benefit select populations of minorities; therefore it is my goal as a CSE representative senator to act as a catalyst in cultivating an appealing culture of diversity that gives a welcoming environment for those from all walks of life.
